One of the Board of Adjustment (BOA) cases that I heard this past year was the mixed use building in Downtown Boone now named 494 Lofts. I remain a proponent of redevelopment of underutilized sites. This in my opinion was one of those sites. I believe that any new commercial development whether it be Downtown or otherwise is good for the community. You can have the opinion to disagree, however “activity begets activity”. Remember that this project went through the rigors of the BOA not only once but twice, the new developer petitioned for a Special Use Permit Modification of the original permit. Hopefully the community will be pleased with this new addition to Downtown Boone. The High Country Press article is below.
