Appalachian Commercial Real Estate

James Milner, CCIM is an alumnus of Appalachian State University where he majored in Finance and Banking with a Certification in Certified Financial Planning.  He has lived in the Town of Boone since May 2000 where he pursued commercial real estate after being a real estate paralegal for Richard E. Mattar, Attorney at Law.  He has obtained the North Carolina Certified Paralegal certification by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification.  In 2005, he started Milner Research Services, LLC which provides independent real estate consulting and analysis to developers and attorneys in northwest North Carolina.  He currently holds a license to practice real estate in North Carolina.  In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious CCIM designation by the CCIM Institute. He is the only designee in his area involved full time in commercial real estate.

Mr. Milner works in all areas of commercial real estate however with being located in a university town stays involved with multifamily transactions on a local and regional level. Furthermore, he is involved in leasing transactions representing both Landlords and Tenants. Mr. Milner is a member of CCIM Institute, High County Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, NC CCIM Chapter, North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification, Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, High Country Young Professionals, Yosef Club and attends Boone United Methodist Church.

Mr. Milner is engaged and committed to service and community involvement.  He currently serves as the Treasurer to the Board of Directors for the Western Youth Network, a non-profit organization providing mentoring, after-school and prevention programs in Watauga and bordering counties to adolescence youth.

As a founding member, he serves on the Executive Board for Young Professionals of Boone, whose mission is to cultivate next generation leadership in the High Country by retaining and recruiting young professionals through business and social networking.

He is also the Grand Chapter Advisor for the Epsilon Rho Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity at Appalachian State University.  Since July 2007, Mr. Milner has served the Town of Boone as a member of the Board of Adjustment.

In addition to local service, he is serving on the national Board of Directors for CLVEN, LLC a subsidiary of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, Inc.  CLVEN’s mission is to enhance the undergraduate fraternity experience by providing assistance and support as it relates to housing or other forms of shared space through alumni Housing Corporations of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, Inc.  Since 2011 he has served as the Secretary & Treasurer.

Mr. Milner is married to his wife, Catharine Milner together they have a son, Peter and they reside in Boone, NC.
